WA State Presidential Primary in 2020

Primary Day is March 10, 2020 this year.

What’s New

  • The Washington State Presidential Primary is EARLIER this year .
  • BOTH PARTIES will now choose a candidate via a PRIMARY BALLOT, not by a caucus. (Note: party caucuses will still occur, but they will be fore choosing delegates for the state’s party convention.)

How the WA State Presidential Primary Works in 2020

  • Ballots will be mailed on February 21, 2020 and must be returned (by mail or in a drop-box) by MARCH 10, 2020.
  • Only two parties will appear on the state primary ballot, Republican and Democratic. You must DECLARE A PARTY and then vote for ONE candidate within that party.
  • Party declaration will apply ONLY to this March 10 presidential primary ballot. You can vote for candidates of any party in the upcoming state primary in August and the general elections in November 2020. (Note: presidential candidates do not appear on the August state primary ballot.)
  • The March presidential primary is your only chance to influence who the nominee will be for your declared party in November.
