Increase Your Voting Power By Attending Speak Up School

The Kitsap League of Women Voters is sponsoring Speak Up School to empower citizens to feel comfortable and skills for Speaking Up at the WA Redistricting Commission’s public meetings and/or public hearings.  Redistricting Congressional and Legislative district lines happen every ten years and affect who has the greatest voting power.

Legislative Districts drawn 10 years ago; new ones are coming. YOU can have an impact.

The Kitsap County Speak Up School will be broken into three sessions. Sessions 1 & 2 are April 10 and April 17 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm, and Session 3 is on April 29 from 6 – 7:30 pm. These FREE sessions will be on Zoom; you’ll need to sign up for each session. All are welcome, not just LWV members.

About the Sessions

Session 1, April 10, 1:30-3:30 pm

The first session, on April 10th, will have a keynote address by Senator Emily Randall, who will motivate participants to Use Your Voice in order to gain more Voting Power, followed by a PowerPoint presentation on Why Is Redistricting Important, and then a PowerPoint presentation on How to Write Effective Testimony.

Session 2, April 17, 1:30-3:30 pm

The second session, on April 17th, will focus on How to Testify in order to Have an Impact.  The pointers that will be given will be useful whenever someone testifies at a public hearing or meeting.

Lastly, we will cover in the third session, on April 29th, Data Lenses, or what are the different ways that district lines can be drawn in order to empower your community to gain more voting power.
